Your Invitation to Share
Here’s where you come in. With so much stigma surrounding mental illness, it can feel almost impossible to share your experiences or find a trusted person to confide in.
I stumbled on this quote the other day and it really illuminated for me the importance of sharing your struggles in order to unburden yourself and feel more in control of your life. Lugging your story around with you is exhausting – a pretty unbearable weight.
“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”

With this in mind, I’ve created the Your Stories segment of savvy, willing & able. Anonymously or otherwise, you can submit your story of mental illness, trauma or recovery (up to 500 words) and have it published right here.
In no way can this blog take the place of certified counselling or psychological treatment. Still, I hope we can build up a database of personal stories – and with each story shared, make it a little easier for the next person to share whatever is troubling them.
As Fred Rogers said so beautifully, “anything that’s human is mentionable”. And regardless of our struggles or diagnoses, we are all human.
